“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.” (Ephesians 5:1, NASB)

A few years ago, I joined a new fantasy football league. After joining the league, I realized there were some rules that I wasn’t comfortable with.

So, I messaged the commissioner to ask if those rules could be changed. He simply wrote back, “The standard is the standard.” I laughed out loud!

I got the message loud and clear. If I didn’t like the rules, I didn’t have to be a part of the league.

The standard of Christianity is to imitate God. For clarity, Jesus says, “Be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect.” People don’t like that standard, so they respond, “Nobody’s perfect. I’m only human.”

Here’s the loving but honest truth: God does not lower His standards to accommodate your sinfulness.

Whenever God gives a command, He fully expects that command to be obeyed. In His love, He also provides a way for us to obey every command. Here is how: “Imitate Jesus.”

You can do all things through Christ who provides the strength. If all means all, then the standard is not the issue. The issue is wanting God to adjust to us instead of us adjusting to Him.

God does not change. If you want to be in Jesus’ reality league, your heavenly Commissioner says, “The standard is the standard.” Be like Christ!
